10 Superhero Movie Roles That Jeff Goldblum Could Play

Jeff Goldblum is no stranger to the world of Nerd films. The Fly, Jurassic Park/The Lost World, and even Independence Day (and its upcoming sequel) are all films that have cemented the 63 year old actor firmly in the world of nerd culture. During a recent interview while promoting Independence Day: Resurgence the actor was asked if he would be eventually joining a superhero movie anytime soon, and his response is now the talk of the town. In light of this recent developement, Heroic Hollywood has now compiled a list of 10 possibilities across the 3 cinematic universes that Goldblum could play in the very near future. In no particular order, hit the Next button to begin. Alan Scott In the comics, Alan Scott is the Golden Age Green Lantern. Unlike his space-cop counterpart, Scott gains his powers via magic through a mystical "green flame" that fell to Earth in ancient China. While the character has his publication firmly tied to the Justice Society of America, the film incarnation can be more of a historian role that acts more akin to a mentor role instead of a retired superhero. Professor Miles Warren aka Jackal Professor Miles Warren was a professor of biochem at Empire State University, and proved to be a controversial foe in the Spider-Man mythos. Despite his notable infatuation of his student Gwen Stacy, Warren later becomes the Jackal and kicks off the Clone Saga. His creations include multiple Gwen Stacy clones, Kaine, and Scarlet Spider. The film version can probably avoid the Clone Saga, but could place the character in the Oscorp Labs and set him up as a precursor to the more "genetically-modified" villains. The Question The Question is one of DC's most obscure, unique, and eccentric characters, and it is perfect for someone like Jeff Goldblum. The character is the vigilante protector of Hub City. And while he is a great martial artist and detective, he is more known for his Conspiracy Theorist personality. Reed Richards - Mr Fantastic One of Marvel's most iconic characters, and one that has been tremendously abused in his portrayals. With 3 unsuccessful movies already under Fox's belt, the studio could greatly benefit with an arrangement between Fox and Disney similar to what Disney already has going with Sony regarding Spider-Man. If such a deal could ever exist, an older Mr Fantastic could easily work and stand along side Iron Man, Dr Strange, and establish the onscreen MCU Illuminati. Jay Garrick The golden age Flash and founding member of the Justice Society, much like Alan Scott, Jay Garrick could easily fit into the new DC Cinematic Universe. He was the first character to ever call himself The Flash. He attained his powers as result of a laboratory experiment which caused him to inhale hard/heavy water vapors during a smoke break. While his origins can easily be tweaked for a film, they could potentially even use the character in an advisory and mentor role to Ezra Miler's Flash. The Vulture This notable Spider-Man villain was a former electronics engineer, scientist, and inventor. When his businessman partner screws him out of his creations and was embezzling away their funding, he took to crime. In some incarnations they have the character tied to Norman Osborn, others have him a rival tech competitor, but regardless of how they decide to portray him he would be interesting to see on film. T.O. Morrow Thomas Oscar Morrow is a golden age mad scientist and villainous inventor. Some variations of the character have him as a mad scientist, others have him as a time-traveler, but most notably he is the father of the AI, and eventual Justice League member, Red Tornado. While the character has recently appeared on CBS's Supergirl, and played a role in DC's Young Justice cartoon, a film version could easily be made to tie him into Cadmus, Luthorcorp, or even S.T.A.R. Labs. Lockjaw Lockjaw is one of those characters that is destined to stand out if he ever makes it on film. The character is a member of the Inhumans royal family, and through exposure to the Terrigen Mists he was mutated to his current canine form. While the character has been known to speak (this is where Goldblum would be involved), he is primary known for being a massively giant teleporting dog. While the Inhumans movie has been currently taken off the board, its still likely we will see these characters pop up in another film, and Lockjaw is likely to be one of them. Metron Metron is a New God and is the supreme explorer, scientist, and inventor of their world. His mission can be simply put as discovering of the mysteries of the universe. While he is not tied directly to either New Genesis or Apokolips, his origins are enigmatically hidden. With DC currently sporting the Multiverse in their TV shows, its likely their movies will do the same. What better way to set the stage than to include a God who can explain it all to them with ease. Brainiac One of Superman's most iconic villains. The extraterrestrial android has sometimes been imagined as part of Kyrpton's technological infrastructure, and others and a conquering alien seeking knowledge and devouring the worlds he is finished with. With Man of Steel already allegedly making visual references, and possibly even similar ones in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, its only a matter of time before we see this monster on screen. While its entirely possible his remarks were simply idle talk, gaining someone as iconic and talented as Jeff Goldblum to any of the comic book cinematic universes would be a huge play. While he is typically known for his roles playing scientists, he is also known for his eccentric nature, and even ridiculous knack for comic relief. Hopefully his comments were very real, because I for one would love to see him pop up in one of those roles.
