A few years ago, a crossover between two Sony franchises: 21 Jump Street and Men In Black was in development. The crossover, which would’ve been titled MIB 23 had James Bobin attached to direct from a script by Rodney Rothman. However, the 21 Jump Street spin-off ultimately never made it to the big screen.
Men In Black: International producer Walter Parkes spoke with Collider about the upcoming film that stars Avengers: Endgame stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson as the film’s dynamic duo. During the interview, Parkes was asked about the now-cancelled crossover:
“I wasn’t so much involved in that first conversation. I got a phone [call] at the time from the head of the studio who said, ‘Pull over. We have to tell you the greatest idea. What about mashing up the two franchises?’ By the way, at first I thought, ‘Well, yeah, that’s interesting,’ but it was more of a Jump Street movie, honestly, with those guys going to Men In Black.”
21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller claim that there is active development on both 23 Jump Street and a female-led spinoff 24 Jump Street. Even though the proposed crossover was ultimately cancelled, it seems that fans haven’t seen the last of the 21 Jump Street franchise.
Are you bummed that we never got a chance to see Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s characters from 21 Jump Street join MIB? Do you hope we will see 21 Jump Street return to the big screen rather than later?
