Olivia Munn Went All-In For ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Training

When it comes to action and superhero movies, you always hear actors talk about wanting to do as much stunt work as they could in order to make for a more genuine viewing experience for the audience, so on and so forth. A lot of the times if just feels like the politically correct thing to say, or a director trying to make his actor look good. Unless its someone like Jason Statham, though, these guys aren’t doing too much. Unless you are Olivia Munn on the set of X-Men: Apocalypse, that is.

In a special behind-the-scenes bonus feature, director Bryan Singer, co-star Michael Fassbender and even Munn herself go into detail about how committed she was to bringing most of Psylocke’s stunts on her own. Check out the video here:

That seems pretty intense! She mentions going through rigorous sword work training in order to get the technique on screen just right, plus lessons in taekwondo, karate, and boxing. Well done, Psylocke, that’s the training of a true X-Man. Even though it felt like Munn’s character didn’t get a whole lot of screen time in the film, or at least not as much as the promotional material would have you believe, she did have some pretty cool fight scenes when she was present. And now we know if was actually her a good portion of the time instead of a stunt double! Pretty impressive.

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a God. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto, to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven with the help of Professor X must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
