Who is he: In the comics, we have no such character. Detective Joseph West as actually a creation for the TV Version of The Flash. In the TV show, Joseph ” Joe” West is a police detective of the CCPD and the father of Iris West,Wally West and the foster father of Barry Allen. In the comics, there were two versions of Iris West’s father. Originally, his name was Ira West and he was a university professor and only the adoptive father to Iris, and in the New 52, we have William West, an abusive alcoholic who bullied and crippled Iris’s brother.
Why its possible: Once again, with the Flash playing a role in the film (and his significant presence on TV) its possible that DC would want to show a very different version of the world The Flash is from, and given the new rumors of the Iris West being cast (and as a blonde girl), its possible they would want to show a new version of the West family.
The actor also praised the freedom given on set.
