During a recent Q&A segment after a double screening of The Big Short and Adam McKay’s most recent work, Vice, the folks at Discussing Film revealed that at this session, McKay revealed that he was approached by Marvel Studios to assist with the next Spider-Man film. However, it’s uncertain in what capacity or what level of work Adam McKay would have had, as there’s no indication of whether he was asked to write, direct, produce, or some other high level of responsibility with Far From Home.
In the end, though, Adam McKay was unable to take on the assignment due to his commitment to working on Vice. But it’s interesting how often Adam McKay’s name has come up in regards to comic-related adaptations as of recent. After all, there was the aforementioned Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, him mentioning that he was interested in a Silver Surfer project, and his belief that Marvel Studios is working on a Nova film. And you thought that Drew Goddard circled around a lot of comic-related projects.
Nonetheless, would you have wanted to see Adam McKay involved in some capacity with Spider-Man: Far From Home? Would you have wanted to see him behind the camera over returning director Jon Watts? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jake Gyllenhaal, Micheal Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori, Acar, J. B. Smoove, Oli Hill, Remy Hii and Hemky Madera.
The film will swing its way into theaters on July 5, 2019.
