The Los Angeles night sky will be lit by the bat-signal Thursday, June 15, in honor of the late Adam West, who portrayed Batman in the 1960s TV series.
In honor of the actor and all he did in and out of the cape, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and L.A. Police Department Chief Charlie Beck will do the honors and send up a tribute to the man who introduced many to the Dark Knight.
The event is open to the public and will be held at 9 p.m. at City Hall, located at 200 N. Spring St., Los Angeles, CA 90012. For fans who can’t attend, West’s family encourages people to donate to the Adam West Memorial Fund for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Donations can also be made to Camp Rainbow Gold, an Idaho-based charity for children battling cancer.
Fans and celebrities alike have been remembering West over the past couple days, with Batman co-stars Burt Ward and Julie Newmar remembering the kind of man Adam West was. Other actors who have also donned the cape and cowl have spoken out about West’s impact. In addition, DC Entertainment released an official statement about the loss.
Batman fans far and wide have joined together in mourning over West’s passing across social media and in person, and for those who are able to make it downtown L.A. tomorrow night, they’ll be able to witness the bat-signal shine bright one last time for the man who brought heart and light to the iconic character. As West’s Batman said, “There’s not a moment to lose.”
