‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’: Adam Wingard To Direct Monster Film

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that You’re Next and The Guest director Adam Wingard has signed on to direct Godzilla Vs. Kong, the fourth installment to Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse.

Legendary Pictures assembled a writers room back in March to develop the creature feature. Terry Rossio, who is known for his work on Pirates of the Caribbean movies leads the room which includes Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (Star Trek Beyond), Lindsey Beer (The Kingkiller Chronicles), Cat Vasko (Queen of the Air), T.S. Nowlin (The Maze RunnerPacific Rim: Uprising) and J. Michael Straczynski (World War Z and Sense8).

Godzilla vs. Kong is the culmination of Legendary Entertainment’s MonsterVerse between the two most recent American iterations of the iconic monsters. 2014’s Godzilla from director Gareth Edwards managed to gross $529.1 million at the global box office while Kong: Skull Island roared past $565 million worldwide.

There is no word yet on when Godzilla vs. Kong is aiming to begin production but the film follows King of the Monsters, the sequel to Godzilla which is being helmed by Krampus director Michael Dougherty and stars Kyle Chandler and Millie Bobby Brown. King of the Monsters is set to begin filming on June 19 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters will hit theaters first on March 22, 2019, with Godzilla vs. Kong in tow. Godzilla vs. Kong was originally set for a release on May 29, 2020, however, the studio bumped it up a week in time for Memorial day weekend on May 22, 2020.
