Marvel Television’s expansion is catching up to its film side, with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. entering its fourth season on ABC and the bustling Netflix/Defenders-verse about adding new series – The Punisher, based on Jon Bernthal’s acclaimed performance as Frank Castle in the second season of Daredevil. Meanwhile, Ghost Rider (reacquired by Marvel after two failed films starring Nicolas Cage) will pop up on S.H.I.E.L.D. in his Robbie Reyes incarnation.
Now, a bunch of audition tapes have appeared, indicating The Punisher is far enough along in development to be casting (for what appears to be a flashback to Castle’s time in the military) and how S.H.I.E.L.D. will treat the Ghost Rider story. The videos are divided up and labeled below:
The Punisher
First up is James Frain (who previously appeared in the MCU as a Leviathan agent on the first season of Agent Carter) auditioning for the role of a military officer giving orders, presumably to Frank and his comrades. There is also a video of Louis Herthum auditioning for the same part.
Second is Dennis Landstrom auditioning for the role of Micro, who was teased in the tail end of Daredevil season 2 as Castle set off to complete his Punisher transformation.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
These two videos feature an audition from Carlos Miranda for the role of Robbie Reyes aka Ghost Rider and Poncho Hodges’ audition for Hugo.
The Punisher has no release date, but if its currently casting, it’s likely a late 2017/early 2018 release is planned. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns September 20 on ABC.
