Guy Ritchie has directed the film from a script written by John August (Big Fish) and Game of Thrones writer Vanessa Taylor. August and Ritchie are also producing the film with Dan Lin. Marc Platt (La La Land) and Chris Montan (Frozen) are consulting for the project with Jonathan Eirich (Deathnote) serving as executive producer.

The cast features Mena Massoud who stars in the titular role of Aladdin, as well as Smith as the Genie, Power Rangers star Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Numan Acar (Homeland) as Hakim, the head of the guards and Jafar’s right-hand man, and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar. In addition, the live-action remake features new characters made just for the film played by Billy Magnussen (Game Night) and former Saturday Night Live comedienne Nasim Pedrad.

“Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future.

The film is currently slated to hit theaters May 24, 2019.

Aladdin isn’t the only Disney remake hitting the big screen next year. Tim Burton’s Dumbo hits theaters in March and The Lion King will arrive in July. The Lion King is directed by Jon Favreau, the same director who helmed The Jungle Book remake in 2016.

Directed by Jon Favreau from a script written by Jeff Nathanson, The Lion King features the voice talents of Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa , Billy Eichner as Timon, John Kani as Rafiki, John Oliver as Zazu, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari, Eric Andre as Azizi, Florence Kasumba as Shenzi, and James Earl Jones as Mufasa.

The Lion King tells the story of a young cub named Simba, who is manipulated into fleeing the pride lands he was destined to rule after his uncle Scar murders King Mufasa and convinces the prince that he is responsible for his own father’s death. After meeting two eccentric companions and reuniting with childhood friend Nala, an adult Simba finds himself confronted with the choice of remaining in exile or returning home to end the tyrannical rule of Scar and take his rightful place as King.

The Lion King will be released in theaters on July 19, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Aladdin and the rest of Disney’s live-action remake as we learn it.
