‘Alien: Covenant’ Sends Final Transmissions From Its Doomed Cast

The Alien: Covenant marketing is in high gear, with a couple new viral videos shot found footage-style featuring Katherine Waterston and Billy Crudup.

The marketing for Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott’s latest return to his Xenomorph stomping grounds, has very on-point, though perhaps a tad too spoilery. Today’s instance of good marketing are a couple of “found footage” viral videos shared on the franchise’s official Twitter that showcase stars Katherine Waterston as the new protagonist Daniels and Billy Crudup as Oram, the unlucky captain of the titular colony ship. Check them both out below!

The conceit of these viral videos are that they’re the crew’s last transmissions back to Earth before they enter cryo-sleep for the long journey to the stars. Daniels directs her optimistic message for her father. Oram meanwhile reads a philosophical message from a piece of paper. I love these videos, but, as I said when I gushed over Life last month, I’m a sucker for an Alien knockoff. All the better if its on the blockbuster from Ridley Scott himself. Fortunately, word is that he may not only redeem the series after Prometheus‘s divisive reception, but deliver an Alien movie worthy of the moniker.

Alien: Covenant is directed by Scott and stars Waterston, Crudup, Michael Fassbender, Danny McBride, James Franco, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, Callie Hernandez, Alexander England, Nathaniel Dean, Benjamin Rigby, Tess Haubrich, Uli Latukefu, Matt Scaletti, Noomi Rapace, and Guy Pearce. Here’s the synopsis

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, members (Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup) of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think to be an uncharted paradise. While there, they meet David (Michael Fassbender), the synthetic survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. The mysterious world soon turns dark and dangerous when a hostile alien life-form forces the crew into a deadly fight for survival.

Alien: Covenant hits theaters May 19. Stay tuned for more news on the upcoming movie!
