New ‘Alien: Covenant’ International TV Spot Hints At David’s Motivations

Ridley Scott’s last entry in the Alien franchise, Prometheus, gave us more questions than answers regarding the mythology surrounding the Xenomorphs. It seems like Scott is attempting to fix the mistakes he made in Prometheus in Alien: Covenant. One of the ways Scott is attempting to do so includes bringing back Micheal Fassbender’s character from Prometheus.  In Covenant, Michael Fassbender reprises his role as David, the evil-intentioned android who was decapitated at the end of the film by the Engineers who sought to destroy Earth with black goo.

In a new international TV spot released by 20th Century Fox Vietnam, we have a few glimpses at new footage, most notably featuring David. You can check out the TV spot below.

In the TV spot, we see David most likely trying to bomb the Engineers with pods of black goo, just like the ones they had used. David is said to be a major part of the sequel, so it seems likely that his actions will be severe. However, we have no indication as to when David’s storyline is taking place, as it could be during a flashback.

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Directed by Ridley Scott, the film stars Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Danny McBride, Noomi Rapace, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Billy Crudup and Amy Seimetz.

Alien: Covenant releases to UK audiences on May 12th, and hits theaters stateside on May 19th.
