‘Alien: Covenant’ And ‘The Emoji Movie’ Dominate Social Media

Following the terrifying debut trailer, 20th Century Fox's Alien: Covenant has taken the internet by storm! Hit the jump to check out the details.

On Christmas Day, 20th Century Fox unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming Alien prequel, Alien: Covenant. The film will be directed by Ridley Scott, who helmed the last movie in the franchise, Prometheus, back in 2012. Long story short, the trailer brought the goods. Covenant‘s teaser showcased the raw, R-rated, badassery fans of the serious have been clamouring for. According to comScore and its PreAct service, the movie generated 63,000 new conversations, making it the most discussed film of last week. The movie details colony ship Covenant as it heads toward a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. While on this journey, the crew discover a dark paradise, inhabited by Michael Fassbender’s David, reprising his role from Prometheus. The movie is set to hit theatres everywhere on May 19th, 2017.

Interestingly, the horrendous-looking, Emoji Movie, came in at second place with 61,000 new conversations. Of course, 5% of those conversations were positive*. This was all sparked by a brief teaser, and a few character posters which popped up online last week. The movie is set to hit theatres everywhere on August 4, 2017.

Universal’s The Mummy and Sony/Columbia‘s Blade Runner 2049 generated a ton of social media buzz as well. The former generated 39,000 new conversations, while the latter coughed up 31,000. Both films look quite good, with 2049 being the standout for me. Funnily enough, people the world over have complained (a lot) about the lack of Brendan Fraser in the latest trailer. The Mummy is set to hit theatres everywhere on June 9, 2017, while Blade Runner 2049 will hit on October 6, 2017.

So, what do you guys make of all this? On a scale from 1-10, how excited are you to see The Emoji Movie? I cannot wait! I have already booked my midnight tickets; anyone want to dress up with me? I can be the face-palm emoji, and you can be the sad-face one.

Oh, God.
