It was revealed last Summer by Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke that The Dark Tower television series was still in development. The upcoming adaptation will be different from the failed 2017 film starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey of the same name. Amazon Prime’s The Dark Tower series is said to be a 13-episode first season, executive produced by The Walking Dead‘s Glen Mazzara and Titans’ Akiva Goldsman.
That Hashtag Show recently reported that Amazon Studios is looking to have a cast ready for a mid-April shoot in Croatia; Production is expected to end late-June. The studio is apparently looking to cast 16-18-year-olds in the roles of Roland Deschain, Cuthbert Allgood, Alain Johns, Ileen Ritter, Jamie De Curry, and Susan Delgado in the Amazon Prime series.
Here is the synopsis for the 2017 film:
Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), the last Gunslinger, is locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim (Matthew McConaughey), also known as the Man in Black. The Gunslinger must prevent the Man in Black from toppling the Dark Tower, the key that holds the universe together. With the fate of worlds at stake, two men collide in the ultimate battle between good and evil.
Directed by Nikolaj Arcel who co-wrote the script with Akiva Goldsman and Mark Verheiden. The film stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Taylor, Claudia Kiim, Fran Kranz, Abbey Lee, and Jackie Earle Haley.
The Dark Tower is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray and DVD.
