Amy Pascal Compares Tom Holland To Previous ‘Spider-Man’ Actors

We live in a pretty exciting time. Later this year – in a few months to be exact – the Amazing Spider-Man will swing his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sure, the character debuted in last year’s Captain America: Civil War, but July’s Spider-Man: Homecoming will mark the character’s official arrival. The new film will star Tom Holland – who won the Rising Star BAFTA Award – as the iconic character. Holland’s role in Civil War was one of the movie’s most praised components; literally everyone adored his interpretation of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

The character is one of the most successful on film; with five films under his belt, the Spider-Man property has grossed over $3.9 billion worldwide (not including Civil War). Of course, the character was previously portrayed by Tobey Maguire – in Sam Raimi’s trilogy – and Academy Award-nominated actor, Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man films.

If you hop on Twitter or Facebook, “who is the best Spider-Man” is a debate that is constantly going on. Well,  producer, Amy Pascal, has shared her thoughts on who she feels is the best Spider-Man:

“Well I love all my Spider-Men, and they all have different qualities that I think are really special. The thing that they all are is that they’re all f*cking awesome actors. Whether it was Tobey, or Andrew or Tom, they can act like crazy. And I think that’s been a really important thing.”

Okay, she kinda cheated. In all honesty, I think all three actors are so vastly different. It is hard to compare Garfield to Maguire, and Maguire to Holland. Every interpretation has been quite unique and solid. Holland has said that he used both actors’ versions of Spidey when it came to developing his own performance. Pascal went on to say:

“I think youth was really important. We tried to find somebody who wasn’t English, but, there you are. We wanted somebody who looked like Peter Parker, and somebody who we’d have empathy for and who was trying really hard.”
