Sony’s Animated ‘Spider-Man’ Adds ‘Gravity Falls’ Creator Alex Hirsch

Sony's animated 'Spider-Man' film has just added Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch to the project as a story contributor.

Sony’s untitled animated Spider-Man film has added Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch to the project as a story contributor, a source close to the project told TheWrap.

Heroic Hollywood’s Umberto Gonzalez broke the news in 2016 that Marvel’s black and Puerto Rican Spider-Man, Miles Morales would be hitting the silver screen in his own animated feature. President of Sony Animation Kristine Belson officially announced the film last month at a slate presentation at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, CA.

Official details on the plot are still under wraps as an official synopsis has yet to be released. The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have written the script. The film will be produced by Marvel Animation, Sony Pictures Animation, and Columbia Pictures with Lord and Miller also exec producing the project along with Avi Arad and Amy Pascal. Christina Steinberg is set to produce as well. The film will be directed by Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey.

Miles Morales was originally created by American comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis along with artist Sara Pichelle. Bendis and Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso drew inspiration for the character from both U.S. President Barack Obama and American actor Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino.

The Untitled Animated Spider-Man hits theaters December 21, 2018.
