Fans were uncertain if the Ant-Man franchise would continue, given that Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Endgame clearly wrapped up the story arc of Scott Lang and the Pym family, with some wondering if there’s enough of a story to tell to warrant a third movie. Furthermore, the Ant-Man movies have produced good (though not necessarily blockbuster) returns for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which led some to believe that Marvel would prioritize other franchises that produce better box office results.
However, Ant-Man 3 was just revealed to be a part of Marvel Studios’ plans after the currently-announced Phase 4 slate. While speaking with Collider, Douglas confirmed that the movie is indeed moving forward, and that it will start filming a little over a year from now:
“The Marvel world has really been a blast! I love them, I’m having a great time. We’re starting a third [Ant-Man] in the beginning of January 2021.”
Since the yet-to-be-titled Ant-Man 3 is likely a 2022 release, the movie has not been officially announced by Marvel Studios themselves. After the trilogy is completed, Ant-Man and Wasp are likely to appear as supporting characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe instead of franchise leads.
The official synopsis to Ant-Man and the Wasp is as follows:
Scott Lang is grappling with the consequences of his choices as both a superhero and a father. Approached by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym, Lang must once again don the Ant-Man suit and fight alongside the Wasp. The urgent mission soon leads to secret revelations from the past as the dynamic duo finds itself in an epic battle against a powerful new enemy.
Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man and the Wasp stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michael Peña, David Dastmalchian, Judy Greer, Randall Park, Laurence Fishburne, Walton Goggins, Hannah John-Kamen, and Michelle Pfeiffer.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is available on Digital HD, 4K UHD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Michael Douglas and the future of the MCU!
