‘Aquaman’ Nearing $500 Million Global Mark Ahead Of Christmas

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films’ new movie Aquaman has finally opened in North America and other territories after it premiered earlier this month in China and Brazil among others. The film debuted in North America with an estimated $67.4 million bringing its domestic total to $72.1 million thus far as the competitive Christmas Eve & Christmas Day rush looms.

WB is certainly celebrating this opening weekend ahead of Christmas, but the worldwide totals are another means to celebrate. This weekend in international totals, Aquaman has grossed $91.3 million bringing its overseas numbers to $410.7 million. When combined with the U.S. domestic numbers, Aquaman is currently at $482.8 million.

The James Wan-directed film is already nearing the $500 million mark in global totals, and it could very well hit past it before Christmas Day if the box office momentum continues around the world.

The box office success of Aquaman in its first few weeks in theaters should serve as a nice pat on the back for WB. The studio had invested so much money into their DC Comics adaptations and after the disappointing performance of 2017’s Justice League, it looks like Aquaman is the next step after Wonder Woman to bring the franchise into bigger successes.
