I’m not going to spoil what this costume looks like because you’re going to have to see it for yourself below to believe it:
Abdul-Mateen II quickly followed this picture up with video of his costume while he was at his desk, presumably preparing to read Aquaman and other comic books. But he also makes a priceless allusion to DC’s cartoons.
Abdul-Mateen II later clarified that he was referring to the Justice League: Throne of Atlantis movie adaptation (which is heavily based around the Aquaman mythology) and not to Young Justice. If it’s of any consolidation, it certainly seems like he has the “being evil” part of playing a supervillain down.
Aquaman will make a splash on December 21, 2018. Directed by James Wan, its cast includes Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry (Aquaman), Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Patrick Wilson as Prince Orm Marius (Ocean Master), and Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna.
