‘Aquaman’: Amber Heard’s Mera Is All Smiles In Stunning BTS Photo

Amber Heard’s Mera shares a stunning smile in a new behind-the-scenes image from James Wan’s Aquaman.

While it’ll be sometime before fans get to see Amber Heard’s Mera in the sequel to Aquaman, another behind-the-scenes image from the set of Aquaman might be enough to hold fans over. Amber Heard’s Mera was both Aquaman’s love interest and partner throughout the entire film, showing him the wonders of Atlantis as he prepared for the climactic battle with Patrick Wilson’s Orm.

In the new set photo Amber Heard appears to be having fun while wearing her Atlantean crown, which means this shot was taken early on in the shoot before Arthur Curry and Mera go on the lamb in Aquaman. Amber Heard’s bright red hair doesn’t look drenched here either, so this Aquaman moment is more than likely from scenes set underwater so that the VFX to make her hair float could be added in.

Aquaman earned $1.147 billion at the worldwide box office, a figure that makes it highest-grossing DC Comics movie of all time. A sequel is in development at Warner Brothers, with Amber Heard expected to return as Mera. Scheduled to be released in theaters on December 16, 2022, Aquaman 2 is being written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who worked on the first movie. James Wan is expected to return to the director’s chair after he completes a horror project for New Line Cinema.

For now, Amber Heard’s Mera can be seen in the first Aquaman movie. Here’s the official synopsis:

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.

Aquaman is available on Digital HD, 4K UHD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD. Stay tuned for the latest news on Amber Heard, Mera, Aquaman and the future of the DC Extended Universe!
