Earlier this week, Gillette released an ad which tacked the issue of toxic masculinity and called on men to be the “the best” they can be. While the ad received praise from men and women alike, a vocal group of detractors has vowed to no longer use Gillette products in response and controversial commentator Piers Morgan stated that he will be among them in Twitter posting saying, “I’ve used Gillette razors my entire adult life but this absurd virtue-signaling PC guff may drive me away to a company less eager to fuel the current pathetic global assault on masculinity. Let boys be damn boys. Let men be damn men.”
Aquaman star Amber heard responded to Pier Morgan’s statement with a short Twitter post of her own that simply said, “Just shut up.” Morgan reacted to Heard’s comment by criticizing the financially successful Aquaman for, as he believes, displaying the very type of masculinity the Gillette ad was trying to discourage. Amber Heard and anyone associated with Aquaman has not replied back to Piers Morgan’s criticism as of this moment.
It doesn’t seem worthwhile to point on how Piers Morgan’s assessment of the film is both oversimplified and inaccurate (even as someone who did not particularly care for the movie), but what are your thoughts on the situation? Sound off below!
