Alternate Designs For Black Manta’s Look In ‘Aquaman’ Revealed

There’s plenty of life under the sea in James Wan’s Aquaman. And one art designer on the recent DC film got the green light to show some artwork and designs involved in bringing characters like Black Manta, the Brine soldiers, and Atlanteans to life.

Pascal Blanché, an art director at Ubisoft, took to his Twitter yesterday to announce that he was finally allowed to showcase some of the designs that he made for Aquaman. He shows off a couple of designs for Black Manta, then moves onto the Atlanteans, explaining that “I also worked on researches for the atlantean armors. At this stage it was not decided yet how much soldiers where going to be human or fishmen, so I tried different versions with more or less organic or technologic features.”

He goes on to show designs from both the Trench and the Fishermen, explaining that the Brine were his favorite: “The Brine soldiers where definitely my fav. Here again I had total freedom to explore different shapes with the armors and weapons.” Here, have a look at the Aquaman artwork in the tweets below:

Given the amount of detail put into the various underwater life forms showcased in Aquaman, what do you think of Pascal Blanché’s work? Did you have a particular favorite among the character designs and choices for the film? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman.

Aquaman is now playing in theaters.
