‘Aquaman’ Sets Friday Box Office Record For Warner Bros. In China

James Wan’s Aquaman film is having a solid start to its opening weekend in China, two weeks prior to its domestic release.

Before Aquaman swims to U.S. shores it has made the long ocean journey to China where it brought in an estimated $24.6 million. This is the highest opening day for a Warner Bros. title as well as the highest opening day for any title in the month of December. Other DC Extended Universe films ranged in the $38 million – $58 million range for their opening weekend totals and Aquaman is looking good to outdo its predecessors in the shared universe. Justice League had a cumaltive total of $100 million there which Aquaman hopes to wash over.

Aquaman won’t hit theaters here in the states until December 21st, so he’ll have made a significant impact internationally by then. The Atlantean will need all the hype and help he can get because he won’t just be going up against Ocean Master and Black Manta this holiday season. Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns will post some solid competition for the DC film and it will be interesting to see how the numbers look when the final tide comes in for Aquaman.

Do you think Aquaman will have a solid domestic release as well? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an acition-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role.
