‘Aquaman’ Long Range Box Office Tracking Revealed

The weekend before Christmas 2018 is shaping up to be one of the most stacked in recent memory. With heavy-hitters such as Aquaman, Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns debuting that very weekend, it’s going to be steep competition among the three. In particular, there are many eyes on how Aquaman will perform given the track record of the DC Extended Universe.

According to some long range tracking from Box Office Pro,  Aquaman is expected to take the box office throne above Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns. The James Wan-directed DC movie is expected to gross within the range of $40 to 60 million in its first three days. Box Office Pro cites the strong contingent of DC fans ready for this standalone adventure for the King of Atlantis while also expressing that the rest of the cast will also draw interest from men, women and children alike.

As for Bumblebee, the Transformers spinoff film is expected to gross within $15 – 25 million in its opening weekend while Mary Poppins Returns is expected to gross $30 to 50 million.

While this long-range tracking for Aquaman is pretty small when compared to other DCEU films’ opening weekends, the competition it has may be a factor. However, positive word of mouth can help keep Aquaman afloat not just during the holiday season, but well after it too.

How do you think Aquaman will perform at the box office overall? Sound off in the comments below, and be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news in the DCEU.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

Aquaman will be released in US theaters on December 21, 2018.
