‘Aquaman’ To Become Biggest DC Movie Title Since ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

Looks like Aquaman is gonna need a bigger boat… for all that box office cash it continues to rake in. According to box office predictions and analysts at The Hollywood Reporter, James Wan’s DC film is set to dive towards the $900 million mark and become the biggest overall DC film since The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.

For comparison’s sake, The Dark Knight Rises sits at $1.09 billion. As far as the DC Extended Universe is concerned, the reigning box office champion is still Batman v Superman, which sits at $873.6 million. Given the swimming legs that Aquaman has had so far, combined with it already surpassing Man of SteelSuicide Squad, and Justice League, it’s not out of the question that Arthur Curry could overtake Wonder Woman and Batman v Superman as well when it’s theatrical run is finished.

The billion dollar question still seems to be whether Aquaman will manage to reel in the magic billion dollar number. After all, the film does not have any serious or major competition until Glass hits theaters in a few weeks, so Aquaman will no doubt continue to remain the box office king. The film has managed to hold steadily and fight away competition. More than that, it’s continuing to do well both domestically and internationally, so perhaps $1 billion isn’t out of the question.

At the very least, again, surpassing both Wonder Woman and Batman v Superman seem like true possibilities, which would make Arthur Curry the box office king of the DC Extended Universe thus far. Not too shabby for a guy that most people knew as the hero who talked to fish. But given how well Aquaman has managed to hold, where do you think the film will land? Do you think it has a chance of coming within range of The Dark Knight Rises? And do you believe the film has a shot at clearing a billion? Let us know your box office predictions in the comments below.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman.
