Still reigning king at the box office, Aquaman managed to reel in $649.3 million overseas with a grand global total of $887.6 million. And combined with how well the film is doing both domestically and overseas when Aquaman’s box office run has come to a close at the theater, those numbers will look even better. Given how the film has managed to eclipse prior DCEU films, including former reigning champion Batman v Superman, to surpass The Dark Knight Rises is no small feat. In fact, it’s a feat fit for a king.
But, as you know, Aquaman isn’t done just yet. In fact, $900 million is not too far off. The film has already managed to also pass the likes of Venom and Thor: Ragnarok as well, so there are still many other comic-based films that Aquaman could swim past on its way to that coveted $1 billion mark. It’s a success not just for James Wan and those involved with the film, but no doubt for the folks at Warner Bros. Not merely for how well Aquaman did, but how audiences responded to the film in comparison to 2017’s Justice League.
At this rate, though, how high do you think Aquaman will go? It’s managed to top The Dark Knight Rises, so what else do you believe it could overtake? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman.
