Aquaman director James Wan has signed on to produce the reboot of the Resident Evil franchise which was revealed earlier today.
The script for the Resident Evil reboot has been penned by Greg Russo who also wrote the latest draft of the long in development Mortal Kombat reboot which Wan is producing as well. Michael Clear for Atomic Monster is also set to produce. As of now, no director has been hired.
Based on the Capcom video game series, the original six entries in the film franchise starred Milla Jovovich as the lead protagonist named Alice and managed to become the highest-grossing film series to be based on a video game earning a total of $1.2 billion at the global box office.
The involvement of Paul W.S. Anderson, writer of all six and director of four Resident Evil films still remains unknown.
While Wan has made a name for himself as a director with such films as Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring, and Furious 7, the filmmaker is continuing build out his resume as a producer which already includes Lights Out, Insidious: Chapter 3, Annabelle, and Annabelle: Creation.
