Jason Momoa has been taking audiences by storm as the titular DC hero in Aquaman. Since releasing in early December 2018, the film has gone on to be a colossal box office smash, becoming the highest-grossing DC film worldwide. The previous holder of that record was Christopher Nolan’s trilogy-ending epic The Dark Knight Rises.
Guardians of the Galaxy, the hit 2014 Marvel Studios film written and directed by James Gunn, finished its theatrical box office run with a massive $333.17 million and now Aquaman has finally surpassed it. The James Wan-directed DC film has currently brought in an impressive $333.2 at the domestic box office.
Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 was put on hold last year after writer/director James Gunn was fired from the director’s chair. Although Marvel Studios has yet to announce a replacement director, Kevin Feige has confirmed that the threequel will use James Gunn’s draft of the script when it finally moves into production.
The latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe hits theaters in just a few days, titled Captain Marvel. The nineties-set origin film will introduce fans to Brie Larson’s titular hero before she teams up with more members of the MCU in Avengers: Endgame, which hits theaters in April.
