In celebration of the film finally beginning to roll cameras, director James Wan shared a photo straight off of the set. The film has a different codename on its clapperboard. Instead of the titular Aquaman, we can see “Ahab” which may be a nod to the famous captain from Herman Melville’s literary classic, Moby Dick.
On the clapperboard, James Wan is listed as director along with his cinematographer, Don Burgess, A.S.C. The official Aquaman symbol is also featured on the clapperboard.
Patrick Wilson, who plays Orm a.k.a. the Ocean Master in the film shared Wan’s photo, expressing his excitement to begin filming.
Here goes nothing, folks. Visionary director James Wan is going to bring his stylistic sensibilities to one of the most beloved superheroes in the DC lore. Here’s hoping that he makes a splash with Aquaman.
James Wan’s Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry a.k.a. Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta and Patrick Wilson as Orm a.k.a. Ocean Master, is set to come out in theaters on December 21, 2018. The screenplay comes from Will Beall, with story by Wan and DC Films co-head Geoff Johns.
