Speaking with Collider, Wan addressed how the easter egg came about, which is a brief appearance from the 1960s animated television series Stingray seen on the television in Tom Curry’s lighthouse early in the film:
“Let me tell you this. Two years ago, Edgar Wright tweeted me that, if you can get Stingray in there somewhere, I’m going to give you an Oscar. He said that to me. So guess what I did in this film? I put Stingray in there. So I’m waiting for Edgar to see the film and remind him of his tweet… It’s a fun sort of inside joke with Edgar. That’s more an Easter egg between he and I.”
You can check out the original Twitter exchange between Wan and Wright where Wright challenged Wan to sneak the series into the film below.
Wright revealed yesterday that he has not yet seen the new film, he is however aware of the Easter egg making it into the film.
