‘Aquaman’: James Wan On Film Facing Off Against ‘Mary Poppins Returns’

The weekend of December 21-23, 2018 is going to be one of the busiest of the year. Films such as Aquaman, Bumblebee, Holmes and Watson and Mary Poppins Returns will all be competing together that weekend as audiences pour into the theater for the three days before Christmas Day.

Aquaman director James Wan was recently asked about the prospect of competing alongside blockbusters like Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns. Wan revealed that he is in fact a bit nervous about it:

“For sure, I think I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried. But generally around the holidays, there’s a lot to go around — which was pointed out to us when Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle opened on top of each other. You see how well Jumanji played. I don’t mind being the underdog. Aquaman has always been the underdog and I’m happy to continue that narrative.”

How well do you think Aquaman will fare against Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns? Sound off in the comments below.

Based on characters created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger, the script has been written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall based on a story by Geoff Johns, Wan and Beall. Peter Safran and Rob Cowan have produced the film with Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Jon Berg, Johns, and Walter Hamada serving as executive producers.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.

Aquaman will be released in theaters on December 21, 2018. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Aquaman as we learn it.
