Jason Momoa was looking for another huge gig after the billion dollar earning Aquaman, and according to The Wrap, he may have officially found one. The King of the Seven Seas will join the cast of the Denis Villeneuve Dune reboot. The actor will play Duncan Idaho.
The Aquaman star is joining Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem. Legendary acquired the film and television rights to Frank Herbert’s novel in November 2016 with Arrival director Denis Villeneuve officially signing on to helm a feature film reboot in February 2017. Villeneuve has described the reboot as a dream project.
The project won’t mark the first time that Dune has received a live-action adaptation. David Lynch directed a Dune film that was released in 1984. It was met with polarizing reviews but has since gained cult status. The 2000 Dune mini-series, meanwhile, remains one of the highest-rated programs on the Sci-Fi channel.
No release date for the Dune reboot has been announced, but Villeneuve has confirmed that it will be his next project after Blade Runner 2049.
From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an acition-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.
