The upcoming series will consist of three episodes.
The world of Aquaman is expanding in a big way. We are getting a proper sequel to the Jason Momoa-led film, a spin-off centered on The Trench, and an animated series coming to HBO Max. Aquaman director James Wan will be involved in all three DC projects and now details are starting to take shape about the planned animated series.

Here is HBO Max’s official description of Aquaman: King of Atlantis:
The series begins with Aquaman’s first day on the job as king of Atlantis and he’s got a LOT of catching up to do. Luckily, he has his two royal advisors to back him up – Vulko, the scholar, and Mera, the water controlling warrior-princess. Between dealing with unscrupulous surface dwellers, elder evils from beyond time and his own half-brother who wants to overthrow him, Aquaman is going to have to rise to the challenge and prove to his subjects, and to himself, that he’s the right man for the trident!
James Wan is set to serve as an executive producer with Victor Courtright and Mary Harplen-Gras on board as the showrunners for the HBO Max series. Aquaman: King of Atlantis will consist of three episodes.
