‘Aquaman’ Dominates Thursday Night Previews With Estimated $8-10 Million

Aquaman has finally opened in North America and other territories and according to Deadline, the Thursday night previews for the film are quite massive for the highly-anticipated new entry in the DC Extended Universe from visionary filmmaker James Wan.

Deadline reports that Aquaman is on its way to grossing somewhere around $8 million to $10 million in Thursday night previews alone. Given that showtimes began at around 5 p.m., 15% of K-12 schools and 78% of colleges are off class at this time due to the incoming Christmas break, so Warner Bros. Pictures aimed to capitalize on those demographics for this film to succeed on Thursday night.

When compared to 2017’s Wonder Woman and Justice League, the former grossed $11 million in Thursday night previews while the later grossed $13 million. Interestingly enough, Wonder Woman was far more successful at the box office compared to Justice League despite the differing Thursday night preview tallies for the latter being slightly bigger than the former.

Aquaman just opened in North America today, but the film has already crossed past the $300 million mark at the international box office ahead of this release. The film has received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics but the film could easily have massive legs at the box office throughout the rest of the holiday season and well into January.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

Aquaman is in theaters now.
