‘Aquaman’ Helps Warner Bros. Secure Global Box Office Records

Aquaman was a commercial success, leading Warner Bros. to its biggest year to date crossing $5.6 billion dollars at the worldwide box office.

The latest movie in the DC Extended Universe was a success worldwide in various markets. The top 3 movies that brought in the most revenue for Warner Bros. were AquamanA Star Is Born, and The Meg. The success was mostly due to different properties doing well overseas like China and Ukraine. In China alone, Aquaman brought in over $278.8 million dollars. Jason Mamoa was a big hit in that market as well as James Wan with the Furious 7 movie. This makes the movie the highest grossing film for Warner Bros. and for DC in China.

Tom Molter from Warner Bros. had this to say to Variety about the success of Aquaman.

Non traditional films really worked well in those regions, and that was very interesting. That means audiences are very receptive to go to the movies and see good stories. That’s very encouraging.

Aside from the commercial and financial success of the movie, it has been praised from fans and critics naming the best DC Extended Universe movie behind Wonder Woman. Since the movie, fans have expressed their hope in the DC franchise again.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.

Aquaman is now playing in theaters.
