One of the most fascinating “lost” comic book movies is George Miller’s Justice League: Mortal, which would have seen Armie Hammer as Batman. Armie Hammer has spoken about trying on the costume while preparing for the film, saying “it was like an exoskeleton suit.” But now fans have got a glimpse of what might’ve been from Ryan Unicomb, backing up part of Armie Hammer’s description of the Justice League: Mortal Batman suit.
This concept never made it past the “discovery stage, ” but Unicomb mentions that his design featured an exoskeleton so that even if Armie Hammer’s Batman was injured underneath, he could still patrol as the Caped Crusader. There’s also a padded collar that would’ve protected Batman’s neck in Justice League: Mortal. It’s disappointing that Armie Hammer never got his chance to bring Batman to the screen in Justice League: Mortal, but it’s fascinating to imagine what might’ve been every time new information gets out. Take a look at the Batman concept art below.

As far as film adaptations go, Batman will next appear in the Matt Reeves movie The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, which is rumored to involve multiple antagonists. An alternate version of Bruce Wayne will appear in this October’s Joker, portrayed by child actor Dante Pereira-Olson.
In addition to Armie Hammer as Batman, Justice League: Mortal would have also featured D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Common as Green Lantern, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, Adam Brody as The Flash, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter, Jay Baruchel as Maxwell Lord and Teresa Palmer as Talia Al Ghul. Late Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin was also on board as Wally West.
A Justice League project was finally brought to the big screen by Zack Snyder years later. Here’s the official synopsis for that movie:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
