Armie Hammer has been linked to the role of Batman for years now. The actor was set to play the Caped Crusader in George Miller’s scrapped Justice League movie and now he’s a fan-favorite to become the next Bruce Wayne following Ben Affleck’s exit from the DC Extended Universe. However, Hammer has not received a call about the job.
While doing the press rounds for his latest project, On the Basis of Sex, Armie Hammer spoke with Yahoo Movies UK and commented on the rumors he will play Batman. Here’s what he told the site:
“No one who can actually give me the job has asked me if I’m interested. I don’t even know if they are done – they are still working on a script. I don’t think that they are close to production but I can conclusively tell you that no one has checked my availability, which is a bummer.”
Ben Affleck was originally set to write and direct The Batman. He eventually stepped down and handed the duties to Matt Reeves, who’s been attached to the movie since February 2017. Warner Bros. reportedly wants to start shooting the project this November and a search is currently underway for a new Batman.
Plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps. The film is said to revolve around a young Batman and Matt Reeves has previously confirmed that it will not be directly based on Frank Miller’s Year One comic.
The Batman is one of many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC Films. The list also includes a Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Birds of Prey, Black Adam, Suicide Squad 2, Nightwing, Supergirl, Plastic Man and New Gods.
The Batman is set to open in theaters on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on all upcoming DC Films projects!
