A new streaming service for the company was recently announced and WarnerMedia creative chief Kevin Reilly talked about what people could expect from the streaming service. Interestingly, but unsurprisingly, he stated that most of the shows that were once available on other streaming services would no longer be available. He stated that the crown jewels of Warner would end up on this service:
You can expect the crown jewels of Warner will ultimately end up on the new service.
According to the creative chief, doing so would not be a good business model to allow these shows to be on another streaming service:
Sharing destination assets is not a good model. My belief is they should be exclusive to the service.
While CW shows like The Flash or Arrow were not specifically mentioned it would not be a leap to assume that these shows would end up on Warner Bros. streaming service as well. The licensing agreement with Netflix for these CW shows will run out in the spring and it is likely that Warner Bros. will choose not to renew it in order to keep it for their own streaming service. A release date and name for this upcoming service, however, has not been announced.
What do you all make of this announcement? Are you looking forward to seeing Warner Bros. have its own streaming service or would you rather see the CW shows remain on Netflix? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
