‘Arrow’ Guest Star Cody Rhodes Gets A Name Change In Episode Synopsis

Arrow’s synopsis for episode three of season five, titled “A Matter of Trust”, recently got an update which removed the “WWE” portion in the header for guest star Cody Rhodes.

It’s been changed to “wrestling star” and, more strangely, Rhodes’ character name has also been changed from Garret Runnels to Derek Sampson.

The reason behind the WWE removal is obvious, as the wrestling institution probably doesn’t want its name attached to anything. What’s far more interesting is the character name change. What’s the purpose? It isn’t immediately clear and neither name is comics-related and thus unfamiliar, so it should prove fascinating to see how the name change might impact the episode.

Headstrong Wild Dog (guest star Rick Gonzalez) defies the Green Arrow’s orders and sets out on his own after a new drug dealer, Garret Runnels (guest star Cody Rhodes), who is terrorizing Star City. Runnels proves more powerful than Wild Dog and it is up to the Green Arrow to go head to head with Runnels to save his teammate.
