‘Arrow’ Star Stephen Amell Not A Fan Of Season 4

Arrow took a dip in its fourth season. Many expressed disappointment with the show and ratings have indeed fallen since last season. While that’s normal, story-wise, Arrow was already on a downward slide, but thankfully seems to be picking itself back up again in its fifth season. This is largely due to the back-to-basics format of the show, no supernatural elements involved.

And if you thought only the fans were disappointed in the show’s fourth season, don’t worry, series star Stephen Amell wasn’t really all that happy with it, either.

Recently, Entertainment Weeklyreleased an issue covering the DC TV four-show crossover. There, Amell discussed the “lull” that happened in season four.

“There’s a lull in any relationship, where you have a come-to-Jesus moment, and that happened to me in Season 4. We are a street-level crime-fighting show. We’re at our best when we’re focused on those things.”

Amell goes on to discuss the formula of the show that works best and, not surprisingly, magic is not one of them.

“We’re either going to do what we do and do it well, or it’s the last year. If we find the magic formula — which is not magic, it’s just hard work and playing to your strengths — then the show could go on for a really long time.”

Season five has been generally strong so far and often feels a lot like season one. Amell says that this season is really a test and course-correct from falling back on making the same mistakes from last season, or risk it being the end of the show.

“I do really believe that this season is sort of a throw-down-the-gauntlet year for us, where we’re either going to do what we do and do it well or it’s the last year.”

Arrow airs on Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW. The first night of the crossover, called “Invasion!”, begins with Supergirl on November 28.
