Theories predicting the death of Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow, which stemmed from the agreement he made with the Monitor in the Elseworlds event to save The Flash and Supergirl, were fueled after it was announced the series would conclude with its 10-episode eighth season. Now, a reference to the Eden Corps organization from DC Comics may have foreshadowed how Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen will meet his presumed demise before the series concludes.
In the comics, Eden Corps was an eco-terrorist group the NSA tasked Oliver Queen with infiltrating after his secret identity was revealed to the world. Oliver Queen eventually found himself aboard a plane containing an Eden Corps bomb before he could report on the evidence he found detailing the group’s plan to attack Metropolis using the biological weapon. After sustaining bullet wounds, Oliver was faced with the choice of using a switch to the release the deadly bacteria or trigger a self-destruct sequence. Of course, Green Arrow nobly sacrificed himself by blowing up the plane and saving millions in the process.
The Arrow episode titled “Star City 2040” referenced Eden Corps during a scene in which Dinah Drake’s Star City Police Department informant reveals the group was responsible for faking Felicity Smoak’s death. Dinah, who is familiar with the group, mentions Eden Corps has been inactive for months, prompting the informant to reply that they may be ready, “to start nuking cities again.” With the group now being re-introduced to the Arrowverse as the series nears the conclusion of its penultimate season (they were initially introduced in The Flash episode titled “Enter Flashtime”), fans are speculating that we may see Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen share the same fate as his comic book counterpart in the final season.
Arrow continues next week with the episode titled “Inheritance” and you can read the official synopsis below!
