Ava DuVernay is developing another DC project!
The CW is moving in a brand-new direction with Supergirl and Black Lightning both ending after their upcoming seasons, but the network is still planning on adding more DC characters to its programming. Shows like Superman and Lois, Wonder Girl, and a Black Lightning spin-off centered on Painkiller are all on the way. Ava DuVernay is currently working on two DC projects with New Gods and DMZ, but she is now adding another with a Naomi series for The CW.
Ava DuVernay is set to write and executive produce the upcoming Naomi series with Jill Blankesnhip. Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes are also on board as producers under the Filmworks banner from DuVernay. Naomi is a recent title from the world of DC Comics that was launched by Miles Morales creator Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and artist Jamal Campbell last year. On Twitter, DuVernay reacted to the Naomi news with the following:
Are you excited to see Naomi make the jump to live-action? Is there another DC character that you would like to see on The CW in the future? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below!
Here’s a logline for the upcoming Naomi series from Ava DuVernay:
“Naomi” follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.”
