In May 2019, Netflix released a miniseries titled When They See Us that explored the lives of the men who were wrongfully convicted in the 1989 Central Park jogger case. Produced, co-written, and directed by Ava DuVernay, When They See Us featured an ensemble cast that included Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, John Leguizamo, Felicity Huffman, Niecy Nash, Blair Underwood, Christopher Jackson, Joshua Jackson, Omar Dorsey, and many more.
Now, Ava DuVernay is hard at work penning the script for New Gods with award-winning comic book writer Tom King and a curious Twitter user asked the filmmaker if any cast members of When They See Us will appear in the DC film. In response, Ava DuVernay noted that each of her narrative works since the film I Will Follow has featured a cast member from the last project she made, meaning there is a “99.9%” chance fans will see a When They See Us cast member join the team on New Gods.
