Director James Cameron has talked about the sequels for so long that to finally have production actually begin feels strange. But it’s long overdue. The film appeared on the production schedule for My Entertainment World. The production story note includes this summary for the film.
Jake Sully permanently transfers his consciousness to his Na’vi avatar and begins a new life with Princess Neytiri after they defeat the human colonizers.
Avatar 2 is set to film in Manhattan Beach, California. A couple of weeks ago, Sam Worthington stated that the sequel will be very much about family.
James Cameron’s Avatar was released way back in 2009 and, although it has made close to $3 billion worldwide, it hasn’t really made a large impact on pop culture. Many remember the spectacle, the look of the avatars, and the cinematography of the film, but sadly not much else. However, this won’t deter Cameron from making four sequels, which will be released beginning with Avatar 2 in 2018, Avatar 3 in 2020, Avatar 4 in 2022 and the last one in 2023.
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang are all set to return for the sequels. What do you think? Are you excited? Let us know in the comments section!
