Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets has fans particularly excited to see Marvel Studios gain the film rights to popular characters such as the Fantastic Four. According to Deadline, Avengers 4 co-director Joe Russo believes he and his brother will help in ‘orchestrating’ the introduction of characters such as Deadpool and the X-Men to the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
“I’m sure of it. The acquisition of Fox is showing us where the future of the business is going to go.”
Though the Russo’s have not discussed Disney’s plans with company CEO Bob Iger, Joe Russo stated that integrating the Fox-owned Marvel characters is a key component of the landmark acquisition. Furthermore, Joe Russo explained that Disney was “incredibly encouraging” about the downer ending of Avengers: Infinity War and Anthony Russo commented on the importance of surprising audiences:
“The only way to drive a conversation is to surprise people. If you’re constantly adhering to convention, you’re not going to surprise people.”
