“He’s retired. He’s succeeded in the thing he has set out to do. He’s done. He did it.”
As you may or may not remember -spoilers ahead-, at the end of Avengers: Infinity War Thanos successfully gathers the six Infinity Stones, snaps his fingers and, despite the Avengers and the other superheroes best efforts, he wipes half of the Universe’s population in an instant. After that scene, the Infinity Gauntlet is briefly shown burned out as he flees into a planet where he seemingly starts to rest after the colossal feat presumably took a lot from him, both mentally and physically.
In the latest Avengers: Endgame trailer shown earlier this month, there’s a brief scene where we can see Thanos’ armor as some sort of scarecrow, teasing he may be indeed retired. You may remember this as a reference to the end of the classic Marvel Storyline “Infinity Gauntlet” where he also snaps his fingers but eventually is overthrown by the Avengers, plus other superheroes, and is sent into the same circumstances where he becomes a farmer. Eventually, they show his farm and his armor as a scarecrow.
