In the fifth season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a prophecy suggested that Phil Coulson will be the one to “bring the pieces together” before the season concluded with him stepping down as S.H.I.E.L.D. director in the wake of his imminent death. Though details on what the prophecy could mean are currently unknown, Clark Gregg’s absence in the cast list for the seventh season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has fans concerned for the character’s future.
Meanwhile, with Avengers 4 rumored to involve time travel, potentially meaning characters from the past could make an appearance, the new theory suggests Phil Coulson could return to play an important role in the Infinity War sequel. The Reddit user who proposed the theory notes that scripts for the Marvel Cinematic Universe films are written long before the television shows and with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. scheduled to premiere after the release of Avengers 4, the series can address the events of the game-changing film and whatever role Coulson may play once they have been resolved.
Clark Gregg will reprise his role as Phil Coulson in Captain Marvel and fans will have to wait and see if the theory is correct when Avengers 4 hits theaters next summer.
A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.
