While speaking as guests on MTV's Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Russo Brothers addressed 'Avengers 4' time travel theories.
While The Russo Brothers, directors of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, like the fan theories, they suggested there may be something else behind the scenes in question. While speaking as guests on MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Anthony Russo had this to say:
“It’s interesting, because yes, there are photos that always leak, and then there’s lots of conjecture about what those photos mean. Certainly there is a five-minute sequence in Civil War around a piece of technology that was laid in for a very specific reason. So if you go back and look at that film, you may get a hint as to a direction.”
The technology he is referring to is Tony Stark’s Binary Augmented Retro-Framing, or B.A.R.F. if you want to use the greatest acronym ever made. Stark presented this technology to a crowd of MIT students in an early scene of Captain America: Civil War, reliving the last time he saw his parents alive.
The Russo Brothers suggest that this is the cause of the Avengers 4 scenes set in the past. With this new bit of information in mind, fans have been looking at the previous set photos through new eyes. New theories that have cropped up revolve around B.A.R.F. being used as a training program for new team members (which could explain why Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man is seen in set photos that seem to take place during The Battle of New York).
Of course, all of this is still speculation, and we won’t get any real answers until Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters May 4, 2018.
