‘Avengers 4’ Fan Theory Sees Selvig As Crucial To Defeating Thanos

Okay, time for more Reddit fan theories. No, wait, don’t click away yet. This one revolves around Erik Selvig, who we haven’t seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Avengers: Age of Ultron and Thor: The Dark World, though I don’t think anyone is in a rush to think about Dark World ever again, but I digress. Selvig played a key role in The Avengers, yes, and while he was not in Infinity War, one fan theorizes that the professor could play a crucial world in Avengers 4 next year.

How’s that? See, it starts with Selvig apparently predicting several events that have since come to pass in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as him being aware of the concept of the multiverse, all stemming from that chalkboard of his that we last saw in Dark World. Admittedly, most of these predictions happen in the Thor sequel itself, with some outliers being the introduction of Stormbreaker, which did happen in Infinity War. What about Avengers 4, though?

Well, Selvig’s prediction of “The Fault” apparently would lead to a tear in the universe as a result of the Thanos snap and lead to the introduction of a new MCU, or even a reboot, which makes total sense when you factor in that there are movies and existing actors with ongoing contracts, right? Okay, I jest, but even Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is meant to be a result of the events of The Fault, and then the theory even gets into the introduction of Fox’s Marvel characters, even though that probably won’t happen until well after Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants, among others, are out of theaters.

It all sounds ludicrous and unbelievable, sure, though it’s an interesting way to connect the dots. And given Selvig’s involvement with the team in helping deal with the Chitauri in The Avengers, it could be a way to bring things full circle with his potential involvement in Avengers 4, assuming he’s even in the film. But here, have a glimpse at the Reddit theory.
