Not only is Captain Marvel‘s Brie Larson at the forefront of Marvel Studio’s new female regime, but she’s also the first guest on Variety and iHeartMedia’s new film podcast called “The Big Ticket”.
Brie Larson plays Carol Danvers, a member of the Kree Star Force in Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel and then returns again in Avengers: Endgame to aid the Avengers in their fight against the mad Titan Thanos.
Brie Larson sat down with Marc Malkin for Variety’s new show and expressed how happy she was to be exploring foreign territory for women and how necessary it is at this current time.
“I’m happy to be on the forefront of the normalization of this type of content and to prove once again that representation matters. Diverse storytelling matters, the female experience matters, and these are markers.”
Avengers: Endgame star Brie Larson went on to talk about the joy she felt when children would express gratitude for her standing up for all those who feel opposed.
“I don’t think we think about that all the time as kids. I think we accept what we have, but to see this new generation of boys and girls, or kids who don’t identify as either, being able to see this on screen and to not know anything different is really exciting.”
Malkin expressed how he thought he’d never live to see an LGBTQ superhero to which Brie Larson responded:
“I don’t understand how you could think that a certain type of person isn’t allowed to be a superhero. So to me it’s like, we gotta move faster. But I’m always wanting to move faster with this stuff.”
Brie Larson’s purpose has gone far beyond just playing a superhero, even a powerful one like Captain Marvel.
“It wasn’t enough for me to just look strong on a poster; it needed to extend further than that. I feel like I can’t at the end of the day go to sleep at night if I didn’t do everything that I possibly could.”
