In last years Avengers: Infinity War we saw half of our heroes decimated while a fulfilled Thanos looked upon his fields with a smile on his face. At the end of Avengers: Endgame we saw almost the opposite. Our heroes returned from their supposed fate and this time the smile fell upon everyone’s favorite spandex-wearing soldier, that being Chris Evans’ Captain America of course.
At the end of Endgame, Captain America is tasked with returning the borrowed Infinity Stones back to their original places in the current timeline. In a trip that should have lasted all of five seconds, Rogers says his goodbyes to his partners in crime Bucky and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) before not returning and appearing off to the side on a bench instead.
A now much older Captain America passes on the shield to Sam and we see that he has married the woman of his dreams Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). Fans have wondered why Steve wouldn’t pass on the mantle to his best friend and if Bucky even knew what he was going to do going in the end. Endgame writer Stephen McFeely told The Hollywood Reporter that Bucky knew more than he was letting on.
“Steve, clearly, before he stepped on that platform… told Bucky what he was going to do. Whether he knew he was going to appear on that bench, I don’t think so. Why would Bucky say, ‘I’m going to miss you pal,’ if it was only going to be five seconds?”
What do you think about McFeely’s comments about Cap telling Bucky his plan? Does this change how you see the film going forward? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
Avengers: Endgame concludes what Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige dubbed as ‘The Infinity Saga’ or what we’ve seen as Thanos’ secret quest for the powerful Infinity Stones. This Saga heavily featured characters like Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America and Avengers: Endgame wraps up the stories which started with Iron Man way back in 2008.
